‘When we deny the story, it defines us. When we own the story, we can write a brave new ending.’

- Brene Brown

What are the benefits of counselling?

Whether there is something specific you want to address (such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationship or identity struggles) or you are feeling stuck, as if you somehow don’t ‘fit’ in your life anymore, counselling can have many benefits. These include an increased openness to experience, greater self-trust, a sense of self-worth as well as enabling a healthier mindset.  These are four of the many benefits of therapy as identified by Carl Rogers, the founder of person-centred therapy.

How does counselling achieve this?

We all have a built-in tendency to search for and become the most authentic and empowered versions of ourselves.  By providing a space where you feel safe and free enough to explore your difficulties, a solid, therapeutic relationship can be formed that facilitates your feeling of autonomy and development.  Ultimately, therapy helps you ‘own’ your story so that you can leave behind the behaviours and unhelpful patterns that no longer serve you and instead provide you with more clarity about how you wish to ‘be’ in your life.
